Welcome Aboard Mariners Alike - Malaysia Rule The Waves

its hard to describe how a man could left everything he had on land and went out to sea...
its even harder to describe how bright the stars at night and how fresh the cool morning air when you are in the middle of the ocean...
the hardest thing is to describe how close you are to death and how god could took your life at any time...
come to sea and see for yourself...

GOD SPEED AND FAIR WINDS

Kapal Best - Scorpene SSK...Premier Hunter Killers

entri dive...dive...dive...!!!

the two hunter killers called the prime ministers...photo taken from here

i am one proud Malaysian knowing that the naval forces had move one step further in modernising their fleet and capabilities by aquiring a number of surface and sub-surface assets..modernising its air wings and older surface assets and much2 more to protect our waters and its resources...

although there are unpleasant news coming from people with political interest more than national interest saying that some of the procurement were filled with corruptions and so on...

to hell with politics...

here is a post comemmorating our seafarers..i stand corrected..submariners who went to the deep and stayed there to defend the nation...

few years back...RMN had sent its personnel to France for submarine training....which will be the Gold and Blue crew of the nation first submarine squadron...operating from newly established naval base in East Malaysia...

in 2009...the first sub...the KD Tunku Abdul Rahman arrived in Port Klang with her crew sailing from France..and had marked Malaysia as the 3rd nation in the South  East Asia with subsurface warfare capabilities...
TUNKU...first premier...first hunter killer...

i am quite dissapointed when i was told that both boat were named after a politician..an ex-premier to be exact...whilst there are much more suitable name for both...but who cares what i think..

anyway...

The Scorpene has been jointly developed by French DCNS, Armaris and Spanish shipbuilder Navantia (formerly Bazan, then Izar) of Spain. The armaments package includes Whitehead Alenia Sistemi Subacquei-built Black Shark heavyweight wire-guided torpedoes and up to 16 MBDA-built SM-39 Exocet submarine-launched anti-ship cruise missiles.

The subs are also a part of special operation deep insertion platform...capable of deploying divers from special operation units for mission behind enemy lines.

Life onboard a subs is world aparts from life on a surface craft....where everything is cramped and space is limited and had dual purpose...i heard stories where submariners had their bunks placed right above and below torpedo within torpedo bay...

TUN RAZAK...the second premier and thus the second hunter killer...

living quarters placed close to the missile silo...and everything for the officers and crews..living quarters...mess...navigation deck..CIC...etc...were placed way forward while the turbines, generators and reactor were placed way aft..in case of a nuclear submarine where radiation leaks is a nightmare...

plus...living in a such small space...under 300-400 feet of crushing pressure of seawater is very intimidating...knowing that if something bad happens...the only way you go is only down...and crushed into oblivion...

on the conning tower...the skipper and his officers...

but then...none of us...layman had thought of this....only thinking that procurement of this subs are rubbish and so on...while not taking into consideration how 39 lives...who manned and operates these magnificent machine in the crushing depth of cold and dark ocean...sacrifices themselves for us to sleep well during the night....

Albeit some Malaysian with political affiliations had labeled this subs a scandals involving high ranking personnel in the government...which also involved in millions of ringgits worth of taxpayer money used to feed someone pockets for their own interest...

i neither believe in those who ran the country right now coz i know some of them cant be trusted....and oppositions who said they are the champion of the people struggling to go against corrupted leaders but also dua kali lima...coz both are politicians and they had their own interest...money and power

in my interest...national defence should not be use as a tool for political purposes...it a common interest of all Malaysian...regardless of polititcal interest of views...

i had gone astray...

salutation to the naval forces who..without remorse...and without fear...carry on to protect the nation and its interest...

SILENT AND DEADLY...

kapal best - HMNZS Canterbury (L-421)

entry for those who were looking for military sealift ship...yes...this include those from the RMN...this might be a good idea...scrap Dokdo...its too expensive...

HMNZS Canterbury (L-421) multi role vessel

this is New Zealand navy first strategic sealift ship...ok this is not breaking news since the NZ had been using this ship circa 2007...

NZ navy been looking for replacement for its previous sealift vessel..the Charles Upham which failed to aquire funding for refit...the new programme under the name Project Protector is to maintain sealift capability in the South Pacific...the project also include a number of offshore and inshore patrol vessel....

back to the Canterbury...

HMNZS Canterbury (L-421) is a 9000 tonne..131metre length multi role vessel build based on civillian Roll On Roll Off vessel...designed by Merwede Shipyard of Netherlands and subcontracted to Tenix of Australia...keel was laid on September 6th 2005 and completed in February 2006...her hull is ice strengthened which gave her the ability to operate in sub antarctic waters

nice looking warship....nice one....

She is propelled by 2 Wartsila CODADE engine capable of moving at baseline speed of 19.6 knots and economic speed of 16 knots..covering 8000Nm...and armed with 1 x Remote Controlled MSI DS25 Stabilized Naval Gun with 25mm M242 Bushmaster cannon and 2 x .50 calibre machine guns

one of many types of military vehicle which could be carried by Canterbury..the NZLAV...cool APC eh..haha

HMNZS Canterbury had various facilities...ranging from a cargo space of 1,451 m² capable with possible loadout of various military vehicle which consist of14 Pinzgauer Light Operational Vehicles, 16 NZLAV light armoured vehicles, 7 Unimog trucks, 2 ambulances, 2 flat bed trucks, 7 vehicle trailers, 2 rough terrain forklifts, 4 ATV-type vehicles and up to 33 20ft TEU containers...a medical facilities...workshop...armoury and facilities to embark up to 8 containers containing explosives and 2 containers containing hazardous material with extensive sprinkler system...

The ship also had a hangar facilities and a helicopter deck capable of receiving a Chinook helicopter or up to 4 NH-90 helicopters...currently Canterbury operates the SH-2G Seasprite helicopter...

landing craft and 60 tonne crane..port side...

and her starboard side 60 tonne crane with landing craft...note the starboard side ramp forward..

stern ramp and helicopter deck..tent are for BBQ at night...hahahaa...

Landing craft are loaded on either both port and straboard side 60 tonne crane or via the stern ramps.

The nice looking warship of NZ navy is plagued with various problems...ranging from seaworthiness in heavy seas...fatigue on fittings plus the uncertainty and failure of Project Protector inshore and offshore patrol vessel programme...

what ever is it....this ship is considered "kapal best"..due to its civillian design induced for military ops...nice one...

kapal best - dulu MV Contender Bezant...skang RFA Argus...

entri kapal best...kapal kontena perang...wahahaa...

so kapal ni jadi kelas take off dan landing bg jet jockeys dan helikopter pilot...sebelum para pilot nuggets ni di berikan kebenaran utk belajar take off dan landing atas aircraft carrier...

kapal ni gak bertindak sebagai hospital ship...dgn kemudahan dan fasilitas terhad tp mampu menampung 100 katil dgn kemudahan cam wad2 ICU dan bilik x-ray...

skarang..dia dah jadi RFA Argus...the aviation training ship...belah accomodation tu padat gila..flight deck masih boleh buat main bola..gantry crane dia pn dah xde..

kat blakang kapal ni...ade satu geladak penerbangan..yg mana dulunya hatchcover utk letak kontena...gealdak penerbangan ni mempunyai 5 titik pendaratan utk helikopter Westland Sea Kings, CH-47 Chinook, Westland Merlin or Westland Lynx selain mampu mengangkut pesawat Harrier GR7(A) and GR9(A)...

kalau korang tgk gambo kapal ni...ak rasa korang leh recognize yg bhgian accomodation kapal ni dah byk di modified dan ditambah mcm2 fasilitas...disebabkan accomodation kapal ni kat depan...maka RFA terpaksa maintain extension pd superstructure kat depan je sbb blakang tu utk jet main landing2...

jeng..jeng...heli kuar dari hangar..naik lift...heli ni disimpan dlm keadaan space saving configuration..sbb tu mcm kena lipat je...wahaha...

kapal ni gak ade hangar facility..yg mana asalnya cargo compartment utk simpan kontena gak...so memandangkan kapal ni mmg byk tempat2 kosong...maka x rugi lah kalau ade compartment2 tu di modified dan di jadikan ruangan simpanan utk pesawat atau bekalan time perang...lift aircraft pun ada utk bwak naik heli atau jet dr hangar ke flight deck...dah mcm carrier daah...haha...

lalu ku terbang...eh..ade funnel la kat atas flight deck tu...

gantry crane kapal ni pun dah xde...dah kasi cabut...agar xde sebarang obstruction yg menghalang oeprasi penerbangan....tp kat blakang belah kanan kapal ni ade satu funnel...yg tu masih lg maintain..pilot helikopter kata...ini utk simulasi pendaratan atas frigate...konon2 laa...haha...

last tango RFA Argus...semua pic aku tibai dari internet...ngahahaa....

kapal best - Kirov class battlecruiser

entri kapal perang soviet union....dasvidanya...!!!

kapal ni best sebab dia russkies...besar nak mampus dan byk gila armamanent...cukup utk buat lg 10 bijik frigate...

ini Kirov class battlecruiser....platform tempur permukaan paling besar atas planet bumi ni...kapal ni kecik skit dr US nye aircraft carrier...tp lg besar dari kapal2 perang lain yg ade...pakai reaktor nuklear utk gerak...dan ade byk gila missile...cukup utk ranapkan satu fleet kecik kapal perang negara dunia ketiga....

kapal ni ade 4 bijik semua sekali...

Admiral Ushakov (ex-Kirov)...kapal yg first....tp dah scrapped...
Admiral Lazarev (ex-Frunze)..dia ni x aktif..dok dlm reserve...
Admiral Nakhimov (ex-Kalinin)...kapal ni x siap2 lagi...bila nak siap..ntah...
Pytr Velikiy (ex-Yuri Andropov)...kapal ni sebijik je yg aktif...

syg...kapal besar...tp xde duit nak jaga...sedih aku....tp xpe...meh kita cite psl part yg best....

pennant number 099 - peter the great...satu2nya Kirov class battlecruiser yg masih dlm active duty...

battlecruiser ni panjang dia 252m...dgn berat 28 000 tonne bila full load...digerakkan dgn 2 shaft CONAS (combined nuclear and steam propulsion) yg digerakkan oleh 2 unit reaktor nuklear KN-3 yg menjana 2 unit steam turbine...dgn 140 000 shp....membolehkan kapal ni ligan dgn kelajuan 32knots sejauh 1000 batu nautika...

cerita pasal armament kapal ni...sungguh gila dahsyat...utk anti ship missile je...ade 20 unit pelancar SS-N-19 Shipwreck (P-900 Granit)... atau 14 unit pelancar SS-N-14 Silex cruise missile....missile je 20 bijik..gilaa...

utk SAM lak ade 12 unit pelancar SA-N-6 Grumble (S-300PMU) dgn 8 bijik missile setiap satu..total missile yg ade 96 bijik....xpun...96 bijik missile SA-NX-20 Gargoyle (S-400)...

korang kira...sebijik carrier leh bawak kurang lebih 70-80 bijik jet ngan helikopter....kapal ni bwk lebih dr cukup SAM utk kasi padam semua jet...wahahaha....

utk SAM jarak dekat...ade 192 unit SA-N-9 Gauntlet (9K311 Tor)...44 unit SA-N-4 Gecko (OSA-MA) dan 6 unit sistem missile/gun...CADS-N-1 Kashtan ....

kalau point defense weapon nye kuantiti dah byk tu..mmg x lepas laa..mana2 jet atau missile cuba nk kasi ini kapal karam beb...x lepas wa cakap....

utk peperangan anti kapal selam...kapal ni ada 2 unit pelancar roket 305mm RBU-1000 ngan 2 unit lg pelancar roket 254mm RBU-12000...10 unit pelancar torpedo dan ada 3 bijik helikopter....

anti sub nye weapon mmg x byk sbb kapal ni rely pd kapal erang lain dlm armada yg mempunyai tugasan khas utk memburu kapal selam...cam Udaloy class destroyer...

ini saja battlecruiser yg ada atas planet bumi nih...org lain dah x pakai battlecruiser gi perang...masing2 bwk frigate ngan corvette je...so..spesies terancam yg best...wahahhaa

weapon utk sebijik kapal ni aje dah leh bikin dekat 10-12 bijik frigate...gila besar sial...tp weapon kapal ni lain2..Admiral Ushakov nye armament ngan Admiral Nakhimov nye lain...Admiral Lazarev pun x sama...Pytr Velikiy....mmg lain dr abang2 dia...tp masih boleh kasi tumbuk mana2 kapal perang yg berbuat onar...

syg kapal perang ni tinggal sebijik je...tp apa pun...kapal ni memang best...wahaha...

last pic....first battlecruiser dlm Kirov class...the Admiral Ushakov...

Kirov class battlecruiser - Admiral Ushakov (ex-Kirov)

kapal best - Helicopter Destroyer JMSDF Hyuga...

entri kapal perang....all hands to general quarters...!!!

kapal ni best sebab dia japan ichiban dan cun macam yui chan dlm k-on!...hahaha

aku jugak gila kat kapal perang....saja je layan hobi mahal nih...wahahaha....

ini JMSDF (Japan Maritime Self Defence Force) nye helicopter destroyer Hyuga dgn pennant number DDH 181 dan Ise dgn pennant number DDH 182...

designation kapal ni patutnya...based on design lebih kpd kapal penyerang amfibia dgn designasi LPD (landing platform dock) atau LHD (landing helicopter dock) xpun kapal pengangkut pesawat ringan..dan bukan helicopter carrier....tp x pulak..memandangkan kapal ni ditauliahkan utk ganti kapal perang dgn designasi dan tugasan yg sama dr class Haruna...maka kena la jugak maintain...walaupun ada suara sumbang cakap ini helicopter carrier dan bukan helicoter destroyer...

berat kapal ni mencecah 18 000 tonne dgn muatan penuh....so mmg patut laa ade orang bising...berat pun dah cam berat kapal penyerang amfibia...haha...ok2...

ok..katalah japan ichiban tgh hangat dlm konflik...terdapat provision yg membolehkan kapal ni dilengkapi ski jump ramp bersudut 12 darjah bg membolehkan kapal ni mengoperasikan pesawat tempur dgn keupayaan penerbangan V/STOL cam Harrier atau F-35...in case of emergency lah...kalau x mmg xde pun...

kapal ni boleh ligan sampai 30 knots dgn engine COGAG  yg mengerakkan dua shaft dan menjana 100 000 hp...laju kurang lebih 52km/j....haha..

utk tujuan pertahanan....kapal ni ada 16 unit sel pelancar peluru berpandu menegak ESSM utk tujuan peperangan anti pesawat atau 12 unit ASROC utk tujuan peperangan anti kapal selam....2 unit meriam 20mm Phalanx CIWS (close in weapon system) utk pertahanan keatas pesawat atau peluru berpandu...2 unit pelancar torpedo 324mm dgn kedudukan tetap bg menempatkan mesingan 12.7mm dan sesuai dgn tugasan kapal ini utk memburu kapal selam...terdapat sonar jenis OQS-XX yg ditempatkan di haluan...

serius kapal ni best..ak nk beli 8 bijik nnt...wahahahhaa

disebabkan kapal ni JMSDF yg punya...dgn design carrier tp designation destroyer...boleh bawak 11 bijik helikopter utk operasi anti submarine....maka aku declare kapal ni kapal best....wahahaha...

aku letak gambo skali nih...enjoy ok...wahahaha...

HSV - high speed military sealift capability

looking for high speed sealift capablity...the ferries are the answer...

The success of high speed catamaran technology had caught the eyes of the world only superpower to meet military logistic demands for transporting troops and equipments to the theater of operations in the last 10 years.

Civllian high speed ferries and catamaran were leased and chartered to the military and knowned as HSV (High Speed Vessel) to meet logistic demands and at the same time to evaluates its effectiveness and capabilities.

MV WestPac Express (HSV- 4676)

civillian catamaran turned military vessel...the westpac express...

This craft is chartered to USMC for Military Sealift Command. Her role is to transport military personnel and equipment to the objective at high speed while at the same time being the USN testbed and technology demonstrator before going for a proper military high speed craft.

WestPac Express is a civillian high speed ferry built by Austal Limited, an Australian company with shipbuilding expertise were focused on high speed ferries and catamaran technology. The effectiveness of WestPac Express in her had convinced USN with agreement to use Austal Limited high speed craft design for the Joint High Speed Vessel programme.

her cargoes includes armoured personnel carrier...

WestPac Express was chartered by the Third Marine Expeditionary Force (III MEF) in 2001 for the rapid deployment of Marine battalions and equipment in the Western Pacific for training exercises.

The contract involves an initial ‘proof of concept’ period of approximately two months, but it is anticipated that this will be extended for a longer period once the vessel demonstrates its ability to meet the Marines’ needs.

helicopters...loaded through her stern ramp...

During this period the number of aircraft used and time in transit were reduced while plus permitted more equipment and personnel to be transported as a complete unit. This had convinced the USN and USMC to carry out future programme for this type of vessel.

light armoured vehicles and 950 troops...in one vessel

This particular vessel have the capacity to accomdate 970 troops and a cargo area which consist of two vehicle dec and a cargo deck capable of accomodating 153 units of HUMMWV or 12 AAV`s and 20 LAV`s.It is also known that rotary wing aircraft are also carried in this vessel to support military operations.

WestPac Express are powered by 4 Caterpillar 3618 diesel engine producing 7200 kW at 1050 rpm each and propelled by water jet propulsion with cruising speed up to 33 knots.

HSV-X1 Joint Venture

she was a ferry called devil cat before being conscripted as hsv-x1....

The Joint Venture is formerly a civillian high speed catamaran car/passenger ferry built by Incat of Tasmania before being intially chartered to USN and then to the US Army for experimental, evaluation and test programme.

Her induction into military service were due to the effectiveness and flexibility of WestPac Express in conducting military transport operations while at the same had proved to be cost and logistically effective in bringing in the troop to operation theater compared to airlift operations.

flight deck for helicopter operations..

HSV-X1 had the ability to carry 325 troops and 400 tonnes of military equipment together with a flight deck to support helicopter operation and rapidly reconfigurable for different operations and roles.Other roles includes miltary command vessel and high speed long range transport vessel.

HSV-X1 is powered by 4 Caterpillar diesel engine and propelled through water jet propulsion.

Service of HSV-X1 with USN and USAV was ended in 2006 and were returned to its owner the TT Line before being purchased and refitted for civillian use by Isle of Man Steam Packet Company in 2008.

HSV-2 Swift

multirole catamaran...from military transport, technology demonstrator to command and support

HSV-2 Swift is a hybrid catamaran leased to USN from Incat of Tasmania with role as mine countermeasures and sea basing platform.

The HSV-2 is thoroughly used for various naval and amphibious operations and equipped with facilities to support the operations.A helicopter flight deck, strengthened vehicle deck, small boat and unmanned vehicle launch and recovery capability, and an enhanced communications suite are among the facilities and enhancement fitted on this vessel. Her 2670m square cargo deck is capable of carrying 605 tonne of cargo.

stern ramp..similar to hsv-x1 and westpac express...to accomodate cargo loading and offloading

HSV-2 also serve as modular shipbuiling design platform where it had the capability to be refitted to support any mission without requiring long shipyard periods. The vessel were also flexible, having the ability to transport military vehicles and troops in a number of deployments including disaster relief and humanitarian operations.

45 knots and 3500nm...loaded with full gear troops and vehicles

Powered by 4 Caterpillar 3618 diesel engine,HSV-2 had a maximum cruising speed of 45 knots and capable of operating up 3500nm range.

The vessel were also equipped with armaments namely the Mk 96 with 25mm/40mm stabilize gun and Mk 45 Snake Eye with Mk 19 grenade launcher.

Ekranoplan - Soviet monsters of the Caspian Sea

ekranoplan or surface/screen plane is a ground effect vehicle
Ekranoplan or screen/surface vessel is a surface effect craft or wing in ground craft (WIG) developed by the Central Hydrofoil Design Bureau led by Alexeyev Rotislav and Alexander Lippisch in the Soviet Union.

The ekranoplan utilize high pressure air developed by the aerodynamic interaction between the craft wings and the earth surface thus the term wing in ground (WIG). Ekranoplan operates in an aircraft like manner but due to its reliance over surface effect to maintain level flight over the surface it could not fly like aircraft did. The International Maritime Organization considered ekranoplan as a type of watercraft since it operate above the water on certain height and does not operate or fly like an aircraft.

KM-1
Soviet Union is a major player in this technology and incorporate it for military purposes, hence the development of the Caspian Sea Monster by western observer as technology demonstrator.
KM-1 - the Caspian Sea monster

In 1966 the Central Hydrofoil Design Bureau under Rostislav Alekseev produced a gargantuan "ekranoplan" ("surface plane") combining the smooth hull form of a ship with stub wings, a large vertical fin and horizontal tail.
the large wing span and the 10 Kusnetsov engine provide lift and thrust for KM-1
The craft featured ten engines: eight mounted in two clusters of four directly behind the cockpit to provide augmented lift, and two on the vertical fin to provide cruise power. This vehicle could lift 540 tons and cruise at over 300 mph at an altitude of over 10 feet.

A-90 Orlyonok military high speed transport craft
A-90 ORLYONOK
Further developments of ground effect vehicle led to mass production version of ekranoplan for military purposes such as the  A-90 Orlyonok and the MD-160 Lun of the Soviet Navy.

The A-90 were primarily used as high speed military transport vehicle and destined for Baltic and Black Sea fleet before funding were reduces and ceased by the Ministry of Defense thus reducing the number of ordered vehicle from 120 initially to fewer than 30 and finally with 5 units only.

The Lun also faced the same fate with only one unit survive and completed by Central Hydrographic Design Bureau before projet funding ceased. It has 8 Kusnetsov NK-87 turbojet mounted at the forward located canard delivering 127.4Kn of thrust each propelling her to speed up to 550km/h and   operating range of 1000km.

The design provided an effective method of performing a premptive strike against an enemy fleet. But subsequently budget cutback and the collapse of Soviet Union saw the Lun project were discontinued.

Presently only civilian ekranoplan were built on a scale much smaller than their predecessor for the purpose of transport and recreational.
